Zibibbo Serragghia - Terre Siciliane I.G.P. - Giotto Bini

€110.00
Serragghia Bianco Zibibbo from the famous natural wine producer Gabrio Bini located on the small volcanic island of Pantelleria to the south-west of Sicily. It is a dry golden yellow wine made solely from Zibibbo grapes (also known as Muscat of Alexandria) from 60 years old vines that grow in the volcanic soil at an altitude of 500 m. The wine is produced according to organic and biodynamic practices and is bottled unclarified, unfiltered, and without the addition of sulphites. It is a fresh and powerful medium-bodied wine with notes of citrus, mango, peach, salt, and sea breezes. Light herbal notes are also perceptible. It is a wine that evokes the sea and the mineral richness of the volcanic soils of Pantelleria.

The Azienda Agricola Serragghia is located in Pantelleria, a small, volcanic island situated between Sicily and Tunisia, an island famous for its sweet Zibibbo passito wines. This winery has a fascinating history, starting with its founder, Gabrio Bini, who in his former life was an architect in Milan. In 1993, Gabrio, together with his wife Genevieve, visited Pantelleria for the first time and were so enamoured with the place that they decided to buy a plot of land there. This land would not only house vines, but also a hectare of caper bushes.

Initially, Bini focused on production of capers. However, after discovering natural wines and being captivated by the style of Pierre Overnoy, Gabrio decided he wanted to produce that type of wine. The Azienda Serragghia vineyards cover a total of seven hectares. Some of these lands are flat, while others are on terraces reaching altitudes of up to 500 meters above sea level. The grape varieties grown include Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria), Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Catarratto, Pignatello, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon. Some of these vines are more than 80 years old. The soil in which they grow is predominantly volcanic, with the presence of gneiss, obsidian (a type of volcanic glass), and clay.

Azienda Serragghia's winemaking philosophy focuses on natural and organic production. Gabrio Bini follows organic and biodynamic practices, with Demeter and AAA certifications. Fermentation of the must is done in buried Spanish amphorae and the resulting wines are described as wild, beautiful, and expansive, reflecting the very essence of Pantelleria and Gabrio himself.
