Opening the Le Casematte winery, which was founded in 2008, was the realization of a dream for accountant Gianfranco Sabbatino. Today that dream is shared with another person. Footballer Andrea Barzagli, a wine and winemaking enthusiast, has also “taken to the field.” This small, bold company that runs on its own two feet with passion and determination fully reflects that philosophy of “getting things done” that characterizes its founders.
The Nerello Mascalese vines for the Rosematte grow in the Le CaseMatte vineyards on terraced hillsides stretching up 500 meters altitude and enjoy northern exposure and look out on to the sea. The winds from the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas come together over the Strait of Messina, to create a special microclimate for favorable temperature swings between night and day. Wine production and maturation in stainless steel vats. Further ageing in the bottles for at least 3 months.
