In one of the most charming places in Eastern Sicily, the fertile Valley of Noto south of Siracusa, lies the Eloro DOC zone, one of the best suited for cultivation of the Nero d’Avola and Moscato di Noto grapes. Here lie the Le Mandrie and Gaudioso estates, which have been owned by the family of Baron Sergio for generations. A historical family estate that has been turned into a modern winery under the management of Baron Giovanni Sergio. The ancient outbuildings have been renovated and reorganised to house modern winemaking facilities.
Soil composition: medium mixture with a strong presence of limestone.
Altitude: about 70-80 meters above sea level
Average production / plant: 1300 gr.
Training system: spurred cordon.
Harvest period: beginning of September.
Vinification: manual harvesting of the bunches, cryomaceration for about 24 hours, soft pressing of the bunches, subsequent cold clarification of the must and fermentation in steel tanks at a temperature of 16 °C.
Ageing: in steel tanks on the fine lees for about 6 months.
Organoleptic characteristics: wine with an aromatic bouquet typical of the muscat variety with floral, musk, peach and sage scents; a wine that expresses the territory of Noto in Eastern Sicily and its history linked to wine.
A very versatile wine, particularly suitable both as an aperitif and to be paired with fish-based dishes, soft cheeses and fried foods, a savory, salty wine with great aromatic persistence. Serve at 6-8 C.
