Ginolfo Viognier from the famous Sicilian producer Baglio di Pianetto. A cool white wine named after a particular rockformation, characteristic of the Santa Cristina Gela territory. A full-bodied wine with a long aromatic persistence – typical for this grape variety. This wine has become a great success for a grape variety never before implanted in Sicily.

The Viognier vines for the Ginolfo white wine grow in Baglio di Pianetto’s vineyards at the Santa Cristina Gela winery near Palermo in Northwestern Sicily at an altitude of 650 m. An area where exposure, altitude, atmospheric temperature range, ventilation all come together to determine the precious interplay between plant and soil which give wines with freshness, complexity, elegance and longevity.
The grapes were manually harvested in two different periods, an early picking of under-ripe fruit in order to obtain a higher acidic concentration and a subsequent harvest of slightly super-ripe grapes. Following each harvest the grapes were sorted, destemmed and lightly pressed. The musts fermented in small-sized steel tanks. Each of the two harvests were fermented separately in order to obtain a complex final wine bouquet. The fermentation on the skins was natural and occured over 40-60 days at a low temperature.
In the ageing, one part matured in steel vats while the other matured in French oak barriques for 9 months on the lees. A month before bottling, the two cuvees were blended together and the wine matured for a further 24 months in the bottles.
