Marsala Donna Franca is produced solely from Grillo grapes hand picked in the second and third weeks of September. The grapes with their high sugar content are pressed, and left in contact with the skins for around 12 hours. Following this a firm pressing to pass the precious substances found in the skins to the must. The fermentation is slow and, in spring, the resulting wine is blended with fortified must, cooked must and wine-brandy. The Marsala blend is aged from 15 to 30 years in oak barrels, and at least 6 months in bottle.
Colour: Brilliant topaz with intense amber flashes.
Bouquet: Intense, complex, distinct traces of apricot syrup and dates, with a wide range of spices.
Taste: Full, warm, soft velvety with an elegant vanilla base. Clear traces of spices and candied fruit, with a caramel finish and bitter almonds.
Longevity: More than 30 years.
