Planeta family is one of the eldest families of winegrowers in Sicily now in their seventeenth generation and operating 5 wineries spread around Sicily and producing wines from many of the DOC zones. While the current family has a focus on innovation and modernity they never distance themselves from historic and traditional interpretation of wine. Their patient and meticulous work has always been directed to the past as much as to the future; on the one hand profoundly linked to the oldest Sicilian traditions of wine making with its heritage of indigenous varieties, and on the other an interest in those international grape vines which are best adapted to these territories, without neglecting the most vigorous and imaginative investigations into other varieties. Respect for the environment and development of biodiversity are the watchwords of this company.
This wine arrived from the wish for success in competing with the world in the production of this noble and widespread grape. Following a long process beginning in 1985, full of surprises and successes, today the Planeta Chardonnay is an icon for the whole of Sicily. The vines of the Ulmo and Maroccoli vineyards, from which it is produced, are unique for their aspect and terroir. The fermentation and aging in French wood, carefully and precisely judged, delivers a wine unique for its grace and power. Single-variety Chardonnay whose characteristics have made it so famous which emerge very clearly.
Colour: Starting from the richness of its deep clear golden but transparent colour one imagines the pleasing contrast of creaminess and crispness in the taste.
Bouquet: Of ripe yellow peaches, acacia honey and marzipan and with some peaty, cereal and toasted aromas which precede the powerful balanced finish.
Taste: It is indeed a soft white wine under laid by a refreshing acid vein which accompanies each mouthful. Round and nutty, reminiscent of chestnuts with a slight mineral suggestion.
Ready for consumption, but will continue to develop in the large bottle.
